Center for Astro-geodynamics Research was established in July 1995, Director of the Center now is Prof. Xiaogong Hu. Currently the Center has ten research groups and three key laboratories. The Center are now a total of about 76 research scientists (including a CAS member), 80 graduated students and postdoctors. The astro-geodynamics is a new research subject combining with astronomy, geosciences (geophysics, geodesy, geology), atmospheric science and marine science.
Main research areas:
Study on Earth rotation, detection of tide and solid tide, measurement of astronomical constants; Planet hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics.
Global plate motion and regional crustal deformation, stars and compact radio source positions and proper motions, celestial reference frame; relativity in fundamental astronomy.
Study on the theory and application of spacecraft orbit precise determination, satellite navigation and positioning system theory and application study;
Satellite laser ranging technology and application, improvement of SLR techniques both in ranging accuracy and system automation, study on the technology of time comparison by laser.
Highly precise Earth's gravitational field model, simulation of Earth's gravitational field and application.
Research and development of space technology and planetary exploration methods; research of terrestrial-planets using GNSS, Radar/Optical Sensors, Gravimeter, Altimeter and Radiometer.
All kinds of space observation and data processing theory and software system research; collection, maintenance and application of various observation data.
